Objects of desire....

*aaarrrrccchhhheeewwww!* had a bad flu/cold thing over the last couple weeks which left me inactive to my detriment, sadly I was unable to attend the plethora of sample sales which i talked about in my last blog. however I probably save a lot of pocket change. ..

Last week Nicolas Kirkwood had a sample sale in Bond Street with some serious fab shoes !!! But the prices weren't the sample sale prices I would have hoped for ... pumps from £200 however his shoe and boots do average about £700 at normal retail prices...

Nicholas Kirkwood Ankle Boots - £790 http://www.thecorner.com

From Nicholas Kirkwood AW11 Collection

BROWNS Has a little exhibition in its South Molton Boutique called Le Cabinet de Curiosités curated by Thomas Erber, which are cabinets of treasures from a selection of the finest designers, photographers and writers such as Manolo Blanik, Rodarte & Lulu Guinness. These contributors have made one off bespoke pieces which are both exquisite in craftmanship and style and pushes their creativity to the limits. Le Cabinet is as interesting concept that was conceived in Geneva 2009. Recently Thierry W Dupont curated a successful exhibition in New Yorks Marlborough and Steinitz galleries.

Lulu Guiness contributed a fabulous clutch which epitomises her tongue in cheek design and wit. Go along also check out Kata Legrady originally a classically trained musician who has chosen the fine arts pathway. She has attracted international fame for her iconic series “Guns & Candies”. She tends to focus on objects of war and its victims. Her pieces I think depicts the hypocrisy of its original subject, possibly comments on how the objects have a effect on the children of war...

.... It says it in the title hehe

.... So i've come across a few treasures over the last few weeks, especially over this weekend! Over the past couple months i've been in sample sale heaven ! BUT of all the plethora of sample sales i've had to close my eyes and pick my favourite puppies... yes... i am sad to say i did choose DVF over D&G last sample sale...

Lets not bye ...but Au revoir D&G

I heart DVF, I tortured myself by having to choose between a deliciously chunky knit sparkly cardigan and a fabulous black nylon shoulder bag with embellished gold round bullet details. I recently purchased a suede Rugby Bag, therefore I went for the Cardi init ! Don't worry guys I can assure you the bag went to a very good home!

DVF Chunky Knite 3/4 Length cardigan

Next Sample Sale which I nearly lost my voice for was my favourite designer in the whole wide world ....yes you guest right Vivenne Westwood !!!

Look 1. Off the shoulder

Look 2. Plunge V neckline /Wrap dress esque

I waited nearly two hours in yesturday's  brisk winters morn, oooh a wait it was well worth. I did get a couple of goodies the pricing was amaze (as Kim K would say). The genius that is Westwood, I bought a dress that can be worn in a multitude of ways  - it includes detachable arms ! FAB U LOUS, I love this dress long time ... Tres difficile taking a full length photo of myself, so hopefully you can get a good idea of the various ways this dress can be worn (please see pics above).

Next Sample Sale is Mulberry's in the Music Rooms on South Molton Lane unfortunately this one is booked... will keep ya'll posted!

Next goodun is Alexander Mcqueen on from 30th Dec.... sharing is caring click here!

Bedazzling !!

Hey out there !!!

I know i've been MIA for a while but thanks for your continued support !

So i've been obsessed with everything but the jewels of late, i.e, still saving for my De Grisogono piece :S (as above). Saying that after attending Swarovski Crystalized  (Swarovski new concept store - from 2007), its A/W launched party yesturday night  there were a plethora of amazing designers working with the newest initiative producing yet again an exquisite A/W jewellery line. Amongst many others wonderful others, Janis by Janis Savitt designs are very reminiscent of late 8o's/ Dynasty-esques pieces which make a real statement & perfect for the party season which before we know it, will definitely creep up on us !
Janis by Janis Savitt Bangle - Crystallized

Jonathan Saunders who unsurprisingly (after a successful show at LFW with his natural progression into Menswear ) has some simple but very outstanding pieces. Look out for the extra long length Swarzovski crystal necklace encrusted rose cut shapes, which i'm sure will be a sure fire hit @ (from memory) £200 a worth while piece to have in one jewellery box.

My main preoccupation has been with nails, ooooh lovely nails ! Just today i've seen that (my fav!) the innovative Nails Inc have launched their magnetic nails polish... I think fashion has finally arrive into the post modern era.

Nails Inc Magnetic Polish. £13.00 with £1 donated to Princes Trust.
I'll leave you with my magnetism, which should bring you to back to the next Blog installment, stay tuned ! If you're on Facebook check out the RubiNubi Finds for more tid bits.

Until Next time ciao :)

Culture Vulture...

I've been meaning to blog about this for ages ...contemporaray african clothing !

a style that goes on forever... In light of this summer trend with mix prints, I think the use of various african batik style prints give a twist and elegant way of doing this trend without looking to much like one has gone through one too many charity shops :/

Sika Design is one of my favourites, advertised in glossy such as Vogue & Grazia  i may have mentioned on daily site Rubinubi Splendia about her before. All her clothing handmade in Ghana, I purchased a shirt of hers which has certainly stood the test of time..
Cherry Jumpsuit £89.00 by Sika Design

Bubble Dress - Hand Made in Ghana . £130 by Sika Design.
She has an online boutique which contain adorable african cloth dress, skirts and shirts. What is distinctive about her clothing are that they excellently executed, has great tailoring and fierce contemporary design. Outfits that can be worn in day and take you to the evening.

I recently came across amazing designer Max Osterweis film maker turned designer is the chief executive and creative director of the fair-trade clothing line SUNO. His home is in Brooklyn, his home away from home has become Lamu in Kenya. Which you'll see has inspired his amazing collection - where is incorporates vintage Kenya materials and new.

now ALDO is doing it for the high street !!

I saw these wicked wedges in Aldo today £65 not bad eh ?!

Ciao for now :)

Afrosplendia

Oooooh I've found some more scweet tricks up my wonder web sleeves ... Rachel Stewart is a american based Jewellery web company, fortunately for us they ship world wide! Shipping to the UK is $5.00 - using todays exchange rate thats just over £3.00 which is pretty competitive !

Rachel Stewart is a mother who started her jewelery business about 3 years ago after redundancy. Checkout her standout statement jewelry, they emit such positive vibes. See below my fav pieces....

Black & Yellow $30. 00 ( now I've got Wiv Kalif stuck in me head )

The Black & Yellow earrings are particularly my favourite as they represent the sun! It just makes me smile.

DUAFE Earrings available in Wood, Silver or Gold  - $28.00
Gold Dwennimmen Adinkra $31.00

Leaving the best till last . I heart these so much not just because they ooze strength, a wicked sense of the 1990's Queen Latifah vibe. This is an Adinkra symbol - originting from the Gold Coast, Ghana whooo my mother country. Adinkra are symbols that represent concepts or sayings. These symbols are used a lot in African cloth as logos, design and used in Sculture.

Dwennimmen (Ram's Horn) - symbol of humility together with strength

There are a phenomenal amount of adinkra symbols which date back to the mid 1920's, probably a lot earlier, it would literally take a book for me to write about ... so I won't speak much more on this .
This specific symbol resides in my childhood home which also has pride of place nice and neatly in my heart.

HEY OUT THERE...more make up must haves :)

I'm so enthralled !! Shout outs to those in India, Slovenia, Spain Germany and so many more countries who have been enjoying my natters and waffles from this side of the globe!

So the other day I was in my one of my fav department stores Selfridges looking for a new foundation. I have recently gone back to my staple Bobbi Brown... but I get ant's in my pants and I'm constantly looking out for next new brand sparkling thing ...  That old saying 'If its not broke don't fix it' is a term i loosely stay by .... for this very reason... GIORGIO ARMANI makeup !!!!

I mean who knew !?! I sure as hell didn't ... (well ok i did kind of, but that's another story which i can't remember).

Giorgio Armani have a range of flawless foundations which go all the way up to my chocolate complexion. The AMAZING  Thoa Tran - Senior Face Designer who has been working for Armani for about 6years stands by the brands make up  range (and rightly so).

She introduce to me their:

Luminous Silk Foundation - colour 12.5 Deep Terra Brown (which i'm wearing below and  I have totally fallen in love with! I give it a 9 out of 10. The reason the brand doesn't get full marks is because it is bit on the   expensive side @ GBP £33. It does what it says on the tin and it really does feel silk and light and glides on!

Their Primer does give all day lasting finish and I think also helps give a smooth, satin finish.

Highly highly highly recommend their liquid Fluid Sheer Skin Illuminator @ GBP £33, which I mixin with the foundation to give a fabulous sheer glow,. Thoa gave me a a sample of this in #3, Apparently InStyle voted Giorgio Armani's Fluid Sheer the ‘Best Skin Illuminator 2009’, which I whole heartedly agree with. It has definitely become a staple in my bag - could also be used a just a highlighter. Again the price is really quite steep but a little does go a long way after a month of the small sample (about 5ml) which was given to me I still have a good amount left !

Last but not least their long lasting lipstick, OMG !!! This lipstick range is fantabulous, there aren't enough words ! I'm  wearing 'Rouge d'Armani' in PLUM 600 see below...

I have totally fallen in love with this colour its perfect for daytime and easily transferable to an evening event. I have been complimented numerous times on this plum colour! It really is long lasting, it survives my morning cups of coffee and teas.. you'll find the colour does go matt after a while which gives it a different edge :)

Rouge d'Armani  Lipstick range GBP£23

Check out http://www.giorgioarmanibeauty.co.uk for make up bits and bobs ...spoke person for the make up range is Megan Fox no less!

Speak out... on paper

We've seen the beautiful Duchess of Cambridge get her Prince ...*sigh*  in the meantime we can also be inspired by other more controllable entities in our life... be inspired.

I read many times once you put pen to paper it makes it real. Next to my love of  Fashion & Style is the written word... There isn't nothin like being wrap up in a world of writing; weather its a good ol' hard back novel which could take you in to the world of Mississippi's 1930's or a delicious glossy mag that'll draw you into soft textures of  fabric and makes hues dance around in your mind ...

Today Blog continues to be blessed by...

Audrey Brown  - Freelance Writer

her twinkling piercing hazel eyes struck me first, after a warm hug, her shy little princess takes a peep at who is taking the attention of her mama. We take a seat in a local cafe, and really start to enjoy the welcoming  Sunday's sunny day.

on this rare occasion Audrey is on the other side of the table ...my interviewing her begins. In 2006 she finishes her Journalism degree, gun's a blazing she approaches London College of Fashion (LCF) for any opportunities, Audrey's ultimate goal is to start a magazine. Realising her innate ability and talent LCF "expressed great interest"  and asked her to write exclusively for the Universities Newsletter focusing on their students. So as not to have her wings clipped too soon... she declined their offer and flew into the wide world of work...After a few years and still keeping her ears to the ground. A friend who had worked with New Nation (a weekly news paper aimed at the Black British community) had unfortunately gone into Administration. Her friend and other fellow works at New Nation decided to start a new magazine - Lime Magazine she approached Audrey Brown to become a part of the new family!

As features editor for Lime Magazine, Audrey has had the opportunity to gain really good contacts and interview some very exciting guests from sultry singer Toni Braxton to the irresistible Trey Songz

Audrey Brown & Trey Songz (don't they cute together)

WHY WRITING ? it was very much a "natural" thing to Audrey, from the early days of primary school and especially secondary school her teachers raved about her writing! The penny started to drop and then she was thought seriously and her love and loaths for a future career that could incorporate her writing... the idea of writing a magazine! In college she pursued her dream and started to write a magazine which "Inspired" her and concreted future path....

Supportive friends relising her talent saw a Vogue writing competition and encouraged her to enter the only fall back, was that the deadline was due on that day :/ She quickly wrote a piece and handed it in time for the deadline and was eventually shortlisted !!

Obviously her talent knew no bounds and it was like neon lights that she couldn't let her writing lie
PASSION ...Writing (doh rubi !) Music and some fashion. Through Lime magazine Audrey was able to interview some of her favourite musician 'Boyz II Men', Pras of the Fugees including Trey Songs and Toni Braxton (as previously mentioned).

"i'd also always grown up with music, LOVED music, wished i could sing , but couldn't sing so writing was what  i could do and was the next best thing"

Having her own magazine is (rightly so),  still an achievable dream.. but of course requires funding. In the meantime freelance writing and by keeping herself on the pulse of popular culture Audrey is a also a fellow blogger - Music, Fashion and Sex in the City. You'll find with Audrey's blog she is definitely the first to fine out about the latest music news, especially in the r&b, rap circuit... see her most recent interview with new young male band Encore, who have recently been touring Jessie J and NDubz. I'm more of a nu soul, funk, hip hop kinda lady but a far as boy bands go they alright ...

WISE WORD OF WISDOM..."if you have a dream at what ever age you should always pursue it" Audrey had a set back earleir on in life as her first dream was to be an actor, which was really good at. But a closed minded "carreers advisor" told her she couldn't do it. It has been her experience that people can "deter you and put you on to a different track", thankfully she will be also pursing her first dream by starting an acting class.

"I'm always of the mind set what ever you think you can achieve you will achieve".
And constantly surrounds herself with like minded people.

ROLE MODELS ....Maya Angelou, Oprah because of their intellectuality, insight and "what they have gone through and the times at which that the had gone through" their difficulties is inspirational and keeps her striving for her goals.

The career's advisor was made her felt inferior, she says at a young age one is "vulnerable" and not "self confident enough" to lead on their own, ultimately was is needed is that encouragement.

MOTIVATION...the Power, the sequel book to the Secret ( one of my top three books !), in moments of discouragement Audrey "dips into this" to keep her in stead...reminds her at the fair age of 27 single mother Audrey has achived so much and has a wealth of more things to come

Mary Katranzou AW11
FAVOURITE DESIGNERS ... New designers such as Mary Katrantzou , Hannah Marshall , the amazing Tom Ford. Importantly, tailoring appealds to her.

DECADE ... "Love the 21st century" and our freedom to borrow designs ideas from the 40's through to the 60's and make it our own !

Audrey will be putting together a creative writing class!! So stay tuned....for details.

Assuredly i'll be front of the class
